A Tibetan woman named Jugtso set herself alight outside a monastery in Ngaba, eastern Tibet around 3pm local time, today 16 April.
She died at the scene and her body was taken into the monastery where prayers were said.
She leaves a husband and three-year-old child.
After her body was returned to her family, local authorities ordered them to cremate her the same day.
Despite this, hundreds of people have already gathered near her family home for the ceremony.
In March, mother-of-four Kalkyi also self-immolated in the same location. Her funeral was attended by thousands of people.
While John Kerry raised human rights in his recent visit to China, there is no evidence he specifically raised Tibet.
